Most players are able to limit their usage in ways that do not interfere with their daily lives, but many others have developed an addiction to playing video games and suffer detrimental effects. To improve the state of situation, setting limits on our access to games, established healthier routine and getting professional help need to be implemented and carried out.

    Firstly, setting limits on our access to games can help reduce the addiction to video games. We need to strict ourselves with time limit for daily play. Health experts recommend that teens and school-aged kids should spend no more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen, and it’s just as important for adults to limit their time being sedentary. For example, we might limit ourselves to no more than half an hour of play each day. By setting a timer on our phone or another device can help ourselves keep track of our playing time.

    Secondly, establishing healthy routine can also help to reduce the addiction to video games. By distract ourselves with other fun activities during the day. We be less likely to get stuck on gaming if we have other things to keep us occupied. For example, we can read books, going for walks or playing active games outdoors and spending time with our friends or family. We can also meditate or doing yoga to relieved the stress on ourselves.

    Lastly, we can also get professional help to reduce video games addiction. We need to ask our doctor for advice on managing our addiction. We can also try cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to overcome addictive behaviors. CBT focuses on helping us recognize and change harmful behaviors and thought patterns that might be making our addiction worse. We can also ask our doctor about using medications to reduce cravings. Some studies show that bupropion (Wellbutrin), an antidepressant medication, may help us stop a video game addiction.

    In conclusion, playing video games can and should be a fun activity for all to enjoy. But just like everything else, the amount of time one spends playing video games needs to be balanced with personal and social responsibilities. Hence, setting limits to our access to games, establishing healthier routine and getting help from the professional needed to deal with these problems.
